Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is a key individual contributor within a growing Accounting team and plays a critical role in managing general ledger (GL) close activities and financial reporting support. This role requires close coordination with cross-functional stakeholders, auditors, and third-party partners in a dynamic public-company setting.
The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage monthly close activities for assigned GL accounts, including but not limited to:
- Long-term debt
- Royalty monetization and embedded derivative liabilities
- Software capitalization (ASC 350-40)
- Lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Fixed assets, G&A prepayments, and accruals
- Prepare and post journal entries with complete supporting documentation
- Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and fluctuation analyses
- Maintain amortization schedules for leases and royalty-related liabilities
- Review contracts and purchase orders for proper accounting treatment
- Prepare rollforward schedules and support footnote disclosures for SEC filings (10-Q / 10-K)
- Coordinate with business units to manage accruals, prepayments, and resolve open items
- Prepare audit and tax schedules and respond to PBC and follow-up requests
- Execute and document SOX controls in compliance with internal control requirements
- Collaborate with accounting team members to meet close and reporting deadlines
- Drive process improvements, including the use of AI tools and automation
- Support ad hoc projects to streamline close and accounting operations
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA preferred)
- 7+ years of relevant accounting experience in a public company environment
- Combination of Big 4 (or equivalent) SEC client experience and industry experience strongly preferred
- Biotech or life sciences experience is a plus
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Coupa
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
- Experience using AI-enabled tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini)
AI & Technology Expectations
- Understanding of AI concepts such as automation, machine learning, and data-driven workflows
- Practical experience applying AI tools to improve accounting processes
- Ability to identify opportunities for AI-driven efficiencies while maintaining controls and compliance
